Main Beach is defined by a narrow coastal dune that separates the sea and the mouth of Nerang River. This spit of sand creates a natural, calm basin for charter boats like the Heike.

Originally a lagoon created by the Nerang River, the Gold Coast Broadwater is a large, shallow estuary, a place where river meets the ocean and sea and salt water mix. The Broadwater reaches from Southport to Moreton Bay and is separated from the sea by a thin strip of land, Stradbroke Island. In the late 19th Century, a part of Stradbroke Island eroded, creating a portal from the Broadwater to the Pacific, the Jumpinpin.

The Broadwater faces Southport, the first settlement on the Gold Coast. Rich with Australian history, Southport is also a busy holiday area and hosts every type of leisure time you can imagine. Although Southport and the Broadwater are ideal for swimming and water sports, Southport is just six minutes from Surfer’s Paradise.
